Wayfield has launched a new initiative in the hill regions of Himalayan in Uttarakhand, India, focused on strengthening the livelihoods of women smallholder farmers while advancing climate-resilient agriculture. Women play a central role in farming in Himalayan communities, yet they often have limited access to markets, income opportunities, and structured support systems. Through this initiative, Wayfield is working with women farmers groups to implement climate-resilient crop systems—particularly protein-rich pulse crops suited to fragile mountain ecosystems—while improving farm productivity and resilience to changing climatic conditions.

Beyond field-level production, the initiative also creates additional livelihood opportunities for women through post-harvest value addition. Women farmers are being trained and organized to participate in activities such as sorting, grading, and packaging of crop outputs, enabling them to supply quality-assured produce to institutional buyers. By integrating climate-smart farming with value-chain participation, the program aims to strengthen household incomes, improve food and nutrition security, and enhance the economic role of women in rural communities.

The program promotes sustainable pulse-based cropping systems suited to hill agriculture, improving soil health, climate resilience, and farm incomes. Beginning May 2026, Wayfield will conduct major training programs on climate-aligned farming, post-harvest practices, financial management, and government schemes. We invite organizations, researchers, and practitioners to participate in knowledge-sharing and collaboration.
